MyDestinationInfo.com was created in February 2006 by two young entrepreneurs, James Street & Neil Waller, while studying for their degree in Business Administration at the University of Bath. In the summer of 2006 they launched their first website, www.mymarbellainfo.com.

The website was an overwhelming success. After a period of just four months it had attracted more than 20 advertisers and was receiving a steady increase in website visitor’s month on month. After being awarded a place in the final round of the European Publication ‘BusinessWeek’ Young Entrepreneurs Competition, plans were implemented to expand the business to new destinations and a business team of graphic designers, website programmers and internet marketers were recruited.

The major hurdle to overcome was ensuring that the new sites were able to offer the same unrivalled level of local knowledge and expertise. This is where the MyDestinationInfo.com franchise model was created; as a way for the technical team of MyDestinationInfo.com to partner up with local residents armed with the vital local knowledge and point of contact with local businesses.

Having lived and worked in various countries, Fiona Butler first came to the Algarve in 1991 and it was pretty much love at first sight. Seven years on the front line of tourism followed as a rep for Irish and U.K. operators. This experience proved invaluable in amassing a wealth of local knowledge and expertise, and allows Fiona to know exactly what people want when they visit the Algarve.

During the next years Fiona continued to work in tourism – specialising in trips and tours, incentives and team building, creating a vast network of contacts.
