If you wish to hire a car in the Algarve you must be over 21 years of age. A valid driving licence is required and photo I.D.. All the documents relating to the vehicle and the rental agreement must be kept in the car. Pay attention to the rental agreement. Make sure you know what is included and what isn’t – unlimited mileage, tax and vat, insurance, extra drivers etc.. It is normal to leave a credit card deposit and a good idea to check the car over at the beginning of the rental period and point out any existing scratches to the representative. Check the car is equipped with a reflector vest and warning triangle – each car is required by law to have these items.
You can choose to have the car delivered to your hotel or you can collect your car at Faro airport upon arrival in the Algarve. A representative of the car hire company will meet you there. Some of the companies have an airport desk, most of the representatives work out of their briefcases. Some companies take you by shuttle bus to their airport depot. Others have the cars in the airport car park.
