The Lake Resort in Vilamoura is one of the finest five star resorts I have had the pleasure to visit which is reflected in its high rating. When driving towards the hotel, the large red brick ‘Romanesque’ frontage doesn’t do justice to the beautiful interior and front area of the hotel. The Lake Resort was finished in 2005 and looks modern and unique, taking decorative influence from all the five continents.

Guests of the Lake Resort enjoy a complimentary buffet breakfast each morning. Gustatio - Bright, modern restaurant with tiled flooring, ornate lamps and crisp, white linen. Serves a range of international and Mediterranean dishes. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Fusion - Contemporary, Oriental-style restaurant with white armchairs, lacquered dark-wood tables and wooden floors. Serves Asian dishes from Vietnam, Thailand, China and Japan. Open for dinner. Marenostrum - Informal restaurant housed in a modern take on a traditional fisherman’s hut, floating on the lake. Offers light meals, including grilled meats, fish and salads. Blue Lagoon - Pool bar serving snacks, drinks and light refreshments.

They have two sections to their spa, the Blue spa and the Green Spa. The Blue Spa involves water treatments, so has a treatment pool, steam room, roman baths etc and the Green Spa involves various types of massages again taking influence from the five continents. For instance the African room uses hot stones and the Asian room is where you can receive a Thai massage, which I thought was a nice touch. I think the key selling point to the hotel is the Beach Lagoon area where they have an artificial beach area for sun bathing, next to their own lake where you can take a kayak out on. They also have a kids club that runs in the summer for 4-12 year olds, conference rooms and discounts on the 6 local Vilamoura courses that the hotel provides a free shuttle to get to.

There are 192 rooms and 9 suites decorated in a modern Oriental style. All of the rooms have balconies that face the Vilamoura Marina or over the hotels artificial lake and through to the sea. The rooms look clean and modern with flat screen televisions, cool wooden floors and separate ‘rain’ shower and bath.
