There really is nothing more breathtakingly beautiful than watching dolphins in the wild and what better way to enjoy this incredible experience than joining the Sealife team on a dolphin watching tour in the Altantic Ocean.
The boat leaves from the dock at Alvor or the Marina de Portimao in Praia da Rocha, making its way slowly down the river and out into the open ocean, where it picks up speed and begins the search for dolphins and other marine life.
The most common species spotted is the Short-Beaked Common Dolphin. But it is also possible to see many different species of dolphin. I was amazed that the trip sometimes encounters Northern Minke Whales, Pilot whales and even Killer Whales, as well as Sea Turtles, Sharks and many different species of birds and fish!!
Trips last a maximum of 2 hours and the experienced and friendly crew are on hand to give you more information about the wildlife you encounter and also to answer any questions you may have.
Before each trip the crew take you through a safety talk, which is very reassuring, and lifejackets and wind/rain jackets are provided, ensuring that you can relax and enjoy the beauty of the ocean and its inhabitants! Don´t worry, it doesn´t often rain in the Algarve!!
If you are unfortunate enough not to find any dolphins during your trip (there is a 92% success rate so far), the Sealife team offer you a free ticket, based on seat availability to join the tour again. This really is an experience not to be missed!
