The Michelin starred restaurant Sao Gabriel is one of the finest around. It was set up by the Swissman Rudi Markle and has gone from strength to strength with the kitchen under the direction of chef Torsten Schulz.
The restaurant itself is set in a beautiful old villa close to the famous Algarve resorts of Vale de Lobo and Quinta do Lago. Inside the decor is stylish and the layout provides many little dining coves for a more private dining experience. In the summer guests often choose to dine outside surrounded by the wonderfully lush gardens.
Sao Gabriel serves international cuisine such as lamb, beef and fish dishes added to with fresh produce from the area and herbs from their garden. The food and service, as one would expect from a restaurant that has won the accoldae of a Michelin Star is superb. I had a delightful dish of sardines served with three different accompaniments whilst my dining partner had the sauted goose liver which was soft and melted in the mouth. We sampled the grilled sea bass and the shoulder of lamb. The fish was superb, perfectly cooked and set on a bed of light mash and fried parsnips, it was extremely tasty, the portion size was perfect and the presentation a work of art in itself.
Wine can be bought by the glass which is perfect for a meal that provides you with such a range of flavours. The atmosphere is relaxed for a Michelin star restaurant which adds to the appeal and MyAlgarveInfo.com team fully recommend the restaurant for a civilised, special evening out.
